#1 A new Blog for a New Adventure

Many of you are probably here after reading my blog about watching my mother go thru Renal Kidney Failure and being on Dialysis for 18 months.  This was her second transplant, as she had one 25 years ago. If you didn't link here from there, you can check out the first part of this journey Here.

Here is a the previous blog in a nutshell.  My mom had a Cadaver Kidney Transplant 25 years ago.  She suffers from a Chronic Kidney disease.  2 years ago her kidneys finally shut down, and was on dialysis 3 times a week, 4 hours each time for 18 months.  Originally the entire family got tested or inquired.  I was a match against my mother, but our tissue types rejected each other during the testing.  But just because you do not match your loved one, does not mean you still can't help.  We Entered into the paired donation Network together, which is kind of like a Kidney Swap with other people who are in the same predicament .  They are doing these "Swaps" of up to 100 people at a time, so 50 people can receive transplants.  It's like a giant interwoven web of matching.  It's quite fascinating.  Read more about Paired Donation Network.  Well mom ended up finding a direct donor, and had her transplant 1-11-11.  I am happy to report that things are going very well thus far, for both her and her donor.  As stated above, I kept a blog thru that process that you might want to read.

After mom received her transplant, I didn't want to just remove myself from the list altogether.  I talked to the kidney coordinators at the hospital and I expressed to them that I would still like to donate my kidney to help someone out.  Especially after watching how it impacted my moms life and how relatively easy it was on her living donor.  Currently they are in the process of rematching my blood against EVERY single person at the hospital who is in need of a kidney.  The coordinator told me that it is more than likely I will match at least 1 person, if not more.  I am expecting results on Tuesday to see if and who I match.

I will elaborate more soon!!!
